I think this is one of my favorite ages of babies! They're sitting up and doing their best to crawl, but not walking yet. They are so happy and bubbly, and have chubby cheeks and wrists and legs... they're starting to get teeth but still have an almost toothless smile. It's just an age that makes me happy! It's the age my baby is a few weeks away from and I'm loving it! So of course it was a pleasure for me to take pictures of this sweet baby at this fun stage! He has the sweetest blue eyes and the coolest crazy hair of any baby! =)

Rock Security

Justin from Rock Security asked me to take some pictures from his ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate his company's first year and new location. I love taking pictures of details and candids at events, so I was really excited to do these for him! I love babies and children for sure, but I must say it was nice not to have to try and get kids to sit a certain way or all smile at the same time with funny sounds and really bad knock knock jokes like most family pictures require!

Favorite Face 2011

Over at I heart Faces this is the photo challenge for the week... and it sure was a challenge for me to pick my favorite face of 2011. I actually could have posted at least 10 faces I could stare at all day long, but since I can only choose one this is the face that kept standing out to me. I love her sweet look; still a baby, but a doll of a little girl too. And the way her eyes sparkle here I just love.

On, or right around each of my children's birthdays we have a birthday shoot. They get dressed in their favorite and/or newest outfit, I do their hair how they love to wear it and we go outside for a few minutes (they don't usually give me much longer than that) and capture them as they are. It's my way of remembering them at that particular age. I love going back through the years and being able to say, "that was 5" and "that was 2". Well here's a little of Kayla at 7:

It has been such a fun Christmas break, and one of the highlights has been spending some time with our family from Virginia. Jackie is a photographer herself and doesn't have any pictures with her and her family, so we went out and did a little photo shoot in between letting the kids play. These leaves made the whole trip worth while! The kids had so much fun piling them up and running and jumping in them. It's funny how out here in Henderson, NV you have to pay to go somewhere to find leaves to jump in. =) Love you guys!

I loved the location we chose for this shoot! It's a place I've always wanted to try. I love the fact that there is not much to the background and surroundings. Just barren land and some mountains in the distance.
These kids all have such fun and individual personalities, so it was fun to see and be with them for a little bit! And I love the style of this cute mom, so it all made for a good night! Hope you guys enjoy your preview!

My Boys

I haven't gotten a good picture of either of these guys in a while, so while we sat at the park to watch big brother and sister play soccer I brought my camera stopped where there was a few open feet of grass to move around on and took some pictures. And finally I have some I really want to hang up! I love these two munchkins! They're at such a fun stage where their cute and cuddly ways almost always outweigh their naughtiness!

A Boy On His Way!

They all seem so proud, mom of his son, sisters of their brother, girlfriend of her long-time man, and Clay himself of his accomplishments and future service! This is my second set of twins I've ever taken pictures of. I love the bond that you can feel between twins. There's something so sweet and indescribable about two little beings that have developed together from the beginning. So it was such a pleasure for me to spend a little time with this adorable pair. Some of these shots I could just stare at forever. I love her eyes, and he is such a happy little boy! I hope you all enjoy them too!

Today I realized I haven't taken a good picture of Luke in a while. Life has been busy and somewhat crazy, as it always seems to be, but I don't ever want to wish I had the time back. It's one of the reasons why I love being a photographer. It makes memories easier to remember and the small moments last a lifetime. So before I put him down for a nap I threw him on the bed and snapped some shots. I'm so glad he gave me a few grins even though he was tired!

I think if you would have passed by us randomly you would have laughed your head off at the sight! We were making all sorts of noises, clapping, playing his favorite musical toy, and shaking keys to try and get this little guy to smile and look at the camera. But it was worth it! I was so impressed with how loving and patient these parents were with our shoot and with their boy. But who wouldn't just adore him and his big blue eyes?! This little guy has a definite future in baseball, backwards hat and all! =) So we had to get some pictures with him in his big brother's gear. But when he wasn't in gear he was ready for me to take pictures of him. I think the most cooperative 2 year old I've ever taken pictures of! And that includes my own!!

Every time I see or hold a newborn it's amazing to me that they just came from a Mother's body. They truly are little miracles! Little Hudson did not want me to get a picture of his face straight on. He kept burying it and turning it to the opposite side I was on. But I think we took him by surprise enough for some cute shots of his little face, as well as the rest of him. Enjoy! =)

Girls Camp Fundraiser = Mini Photo Shoot

Our church youth program is heading up a huge fundraiser to be able to help with the cost of girls camp this summer. To help, I am donating 2 mini sessions for people to bid on. Here is what you get with the shoot:

One of my donated sessions is given to the highest bidder (right now the highest bid is $75) and can be bid on here (auction item #18). The other one goes to the first paying bidder, cost is $80, and can be bid on here (auction item #17). So if you've been wanting to update those family pictures with a quick shoot, now's the perfect time, and it goes to a great cause! Everything to the girls!

*Please be aware that I am not scheduling any more sessions until at least a few weeks after my baby is born (so probably the end of May or the beginning of June)

It's been so fun to have our oldest in a sport for the first time! I got to take pictures of her cute little team, and so cute they are! All 5 and 6 year olds, mostly playing for the first time. Fix It Friday

I love this picture! It's hardly needing anything, but of course a little playing makes it pop and stand out even more. I love photoshop and editing tools because you can adjust a picture to fit the room you are going to hang it in or the mood of the image.

Just a little note to future clients... I love it when people let me know what they are looking for in their finished product because it helps me edit to fit their style! And sometimes you don't know, but some like a picture more saturated and vibrant, while others like the more vintagey look that's so popular these days. I usually do mainly what I think best fits the client, the colors and clothes they're wearing, and the mood of the shot. But when a client comes into a shoot and let's me know exactly what they're "picturing" it helps me edit more for that particular person/group. Of course, I'll always do what I think is going to look best in the end anyway, but you know what I'm saying... =)

I thought the what made this whole photo was her cute little face, her eyes, and the little hand that she held under her chin. So I really wanted to bring attention to those things with this crop. Then major lightening was needed, a little vintage overlay and a sepia filter. I sharpened her eyes just a little and added a vignette to draw us into her face even more. And voilla! I think I would hang this picture if it was my daughter! =)

Fix It Friday

I wanted to try this fix, mainly to see what I could do with the color that was terribly orange. In the end, I liked just taking it to an old fashioned black and white. I never really liked any of the outcomes of the color. Soemtimes I do this with my own work, instead of taking a poorly color-balanced picture and spending 20 minutes on trying to edit it to look just right, I just flip it to black and white and start making adjustments from there. Much quicker, and I'm usually much happier with the outcome.

So here's the original:

I cropped it in a bit so you could focus more on the baby's cute face and two teeth. I got rid of just a touch of the picture frame that was still showing in the right corner. It was a little distracting for me. Softened up her face a little, then sharpened it just a tad. I like the black and white with a little bit of the sepia on top. It gives it a creamy look.

Winter Wonderland

This week at I Heart Faces the challenge is "winter wonderland". It's hardly a winter wonderland here in Henderson, NV at close to 70 degrees, but we did have a BIG snow storm when we first moved here. Unfortunately, the kids are always asking when it's going to snow again. I'm afraid that won't be for another 30 years, but until then, we'll just enjoy the pictures we took that day. This is such a cute family! And this dad amazed me with his patience and care for his kids. The little one was having a hard time and he took him off and soothed him, then brought him back to our little picture party. And if we're really being honest most guys are not too happy about getting pictures taken, including my husband, but if he was unhappy I couldn't tell. Actually, the past few guys I've done pictures with have been really great!

Here's some more from our session. I really love this location because their's so much variety. I can do two shoots in a row here and you wouldn't know they were shot at the same place. There's so much to work with.

As fun as Halloween is, I'm glad it's over and November is finally here! And it is REALLY exciting that our weather has been so beautiful lately! And if you're like me and everyone else I know there is so much going on this month that I know it's going to fly by, and then it's CHRISTMAS!! But let's all enjoy November while it's here.

Preschool Pictures

This is my second year taking pictures for Miss Courtney's Preschool. I love Miss Courtney and love her group of kids this year!

The kids love doing silly pictures and hugging ones, and most of the parents liked those the best too! So we got the regular group shots and a silly face.

Then with each child we did a full body shot, a closer head shot, and of course a silly face. I can't believe how big some of these kids are! I thought Shawn was a big boy, but a few of these kids are pretty equal to him, and at least one of them is even bigger! Here are his cute pictures:

PW Photo Edit Assignment

The Pioneer Woman had an editing assignment, usually has one once a week now, and since I'm just looking for things to do with all of the excess time I have on hand I thought I'd join in on the fun and try out an edit. She has thousands and THOUSANDS of fans, awesome giveaways, and great tips on photography if you're ever looking for some.
Here's the original, taken by her. Such a cute shot of her boy and dog:

Here's my first edit.

A little more rugged looking, some contrast and some burning. I like it, but I didn't think it would be creative enough to stand out from the tens of thousands of entries.

So here's my second edit. Done in between tending to kids. Probably spent too much time, but not enough time on this one if you know what I mean.

Then finally, the next day I got creative again and did this one. Used with a picture I had taken out at the orchard the other day.

And guess what?? Over 100,000 edits and this was one of 15 or so featured this morning on her blog. Very exciting! So I thought I'd share. You can go check out her blog here and see all of the really talented edits that went on. It truly is amazing what you can do with all of the editing tools out there these days!! I definitely don't consider myself an expert by ANY means, but it's fun to experiment sometimes to see what you CAN do.

Our main goal was just to get all the kids to look and smile. Sounds simple, but I can vouch for it getting harder with each child you add to the family. It's sometimes a miracle to get my own kids to all three sit together and give a cute grin. But this littlest guy surprised me the most, so smiley and willing to sit wherever. but they all did a great job. I think it helped that we were only out for 25 minutes.

Dennis and Donelle: Engagements

Donelle is a good friend and has helped me so many times when I really needed someone! Such a sweet person! And now I'm so excited to play a little part in her wedding! It was fun to get to know Dennis a little more during this shoot. They are so cute together and so deserving!

Baby Raiden + Mom + Dad

I took pictures of baby Raiden when he was not even two weeks old. And now I can't believe he's a big 6 month old! He came to our shoot with a smile almost as big as his eyes! But like all babies, when he was done he was done! The parents and I tried to keep him going but nothing really worked. We did well with our time though. I love this first shot. Just him looking so happy in Daddy's arms and I love just the slight little look you can see on mom's face. Such a proud Mommy! I'll have more to come, but here's a few of baby Raiden for now.

It's SO nice for it to finally start to feel like fall around here! I actually wore a little jacket this morning for my walk! That might have been pushing it a little, but I sure hope it stays!

And of course fall means apples, haystacks and pumpkins, and kids outside!!

Family Mini shoot coming up!

It's crazy, the holidays are around the corner! And for me it usually means a busy time of picture taking as the weather cools down and people start thinking about family pictures for their Christmas cards.

So I've decided to do an afternoon of mini shoots where I will do several families right in a row. The time for each shoot will be less then normal, and so will the price. Here are the details:

Your time will be between 3:00 and 5:00 and location is to be announced. I will suggest and get suggestions from those involved, then determine the final spot.

Due to limited spots available, session fee is nonrefundable (but can be used towards another session) and due at the time of booking and holds your spot! Please contact me ASAP if you're interested as I do anticipate it to fill up!

At the park last night my kids and I chased and watched this butterfly for a while. They were trying to catch it on their finger and I was trying to catch it in my lens. This was my favorite shot. Poor kids, they never did catch him on their finger! =)

Over at I heart faces every Friday is called Fix-it-Friday (I just learned this today!) A picture is submitted for everyone to edit, just for practice and to see what can come of it. A picture is hardly ever finished fresh out of the camera. And though I personally don't like doing too much, it usually can use a little boost, and sometimes a little more! So I thought I'd try out this week's Fix-it-Friday photo and see what I could come up with. And also to show the difference in what a little time spent editing can do.

I'll have to admit, I don't know the specific weight of this sweet baby, but it just went with the storyboard so I made one up. I would have LOVED to have had one of those for my baby! And for some reason I never did one. Hmmm... I guess I still have time...

This was the first time I've been to this location and it was so worth it. There is such a variety of things to work with and we barely skimmed the surface. So this will definitely be a new place I will recommend to families who don't mind a little dust and the smell of manure, which, who doesn't? =)
Anyway, our goal with this shoot was hot mom and three boys, a little present for dad who will be deployed soon. I think we pulled it off. Definitely a hot mom, that's for sure. =)
