My candid fam...

I sure wish I wasn't the only one taking the pics then I could be in some of these too! I think these turned out sooo cute! I'm getting a better handle on my camera and having so much fun with it! I hope I'm not annoying Christian with me taking the camera everywhere lately, but he has been such a good sport about it all!! Thank you so much honey for supporting me! One of these days I'll stop taking pictures of just my family and start branching out to taking pictures of other people's families. My whole goal has been to do family and children's portraits, and eventually weddings.

I love candids. We let the kids loose and here's what I got...

This is pre-water fight!! He's a sweaty little guy.

First Shots

Of course the first ones are of the kids...

But I also got to go out by myself the other night and take some pictures at a little park (thanks honey!!) I really wished I had some subjects with me, and I contimplated even asking some of the people out that night if they didn't mind me snapping a shot or two... but I just made do with what was around me. I got some good shots and I had so much fun! Next time though, I want to bring someone along... here's some of the shots. I loved the bridge there and the little benches.

It's Here!

Let me tell you, after many hours of searching, asking, trying, more searching, reviewing.... and on and on... I finally decided on a camera, and it has finally arrived! I was so excited to get it, even though it arrived after 4pm, but at least it came, and in one piece. I finally decided to go with Canon, and narrowed it down even more to go with the 40D. It wasn't the most expensive one out there, but not the least either. But thank you George Bush for funding my photography with that extra rebate. Now I am fully set to be the photographer I want to become. Of course there are some accessories that I have in the back of my mind that I want to add, but I am good with what I have to get going. So just beware... you will probably see me in unusual places with a big camera around my neck... I even have been bringing it in our room with us at night, just in case someone sees it through the window and might want to take it... they have to get through me first!

Well here she is:

Motion

I love trying to capture motion, and out with the kids at the District I caught a few good shots that really show movement. (Again, taken with my Kodak Easy Share... but just goes to show that you can take good pictures no matter what camera you have... and vice versa!!)

I love how the blur of the trees shows this carousel moving, but Kayla is still in focus.

I wish I could have caught the bird she was chasing in this frame too, but I wasn't quite fast enough. Her face is pretty well in focus, but the rest of her you can tell is moving.

Backlighting

It was early in the morning and I was sitting on the couch trying to wake up enough to begin my day when I looked over at the table and saw that Shawn had brought his cars over and was playing with them at "Daddy's chair." I thought it looked so cool with the light behind him (which in many situations is a bad thing), making him a dark silhoutte. So I whipped out the camera and took a few shots.

I have to note that I'm a little limited right now with not having the best camera (only a Kodak Eashyshare point and shoot) to shoot with, but that will change soon! =)

Me, The Photographer

That's right, I'm going to claim the title. At least that is my ultimate goal. Being a painter (I guess I could call myself that) I love creating beautiful images and seeing the world with its different colors and perspectives. Well, a while ago I was inspired to start doing more with real images... that is photographing the things around me. It's a lot easier to take a picture then to paint it I'm realizing, at least when it comes to the amount of time... and let's face it... your hands don't end up 2o different colors after snapping a shot, and the clean up only consists of turning the power button off and sticking your camera back in its case. But it's also definitely more involved then just pushing a button. I have been doing a lot of studying, researching and practicing and am ready to start showing the world what I can do!! Ok, or maybe only the 3 or 4 of you that may run into this site, but at least it's a start, right? So here's my first post of pictures I've taken for photography's sake... that is me trying to do everything right to try and capture a moment that looks good too.

The Park
I love taking pictures at the park because it's a place the kids love and are having fun... so they usually have such cute expressions on their faces. Also, the lighting is much better than inside and they're usually surrounded by vibrant colors which I like.

I just thought the background was really interesting in this picture, just how the sun is shining through the canopy.

I call this one the stolen car. He usually manages to find at least one lost car at the park... but don't worry, he always gives it back.

I wish I would have taken more at this angle because I like the effect of the grass, but the kids aren't where I would want them to be, but it's still kinda cool.
